The Solar Highways project will be present at the Innovation Expo in Amsterdam on 14 April 2016. Solar Highways is a component of ‘the innovative road and verge’, one of the 200 innovative projects on show at the expo.
Keywords for the innovative road are smart, sustainable, silent, safe and recyclable. Visitors will be able to see what Rijkswaterstaat and market and knowledge participants are doing to make roads as sustainable and environments as liveable as possible. A good example is Solar Highways, a collaboration between Rijkswaterstaat and partners ECN and SEAC on the development of a noise barrier that both blocks traffic noise and generates energy.
The theme of the expo this year is Sustainable Urban Delta. Under this heading, Innovation Expo challenges innovative people to deliver answers to societal issues such as water management, energy, food supply and mobility, among others. Furthermore, over twenty speakers will have the opportunity through lectures, workshops and presentations to inspire and challenge visitors with their stories about technological breakthroughs and innovations that will make a difference in the future.
