The construction of Solar Highways has been completed. The noise barrier has been closed, and the sounproofing function has been restored. In December 2018, the array can be plugged in and the first green power will be generated.
Solar Highways has arrived. The last of a total of 136 soundproof solar panels has been hung and fitted. Now that the barrier is ready to block traffic noise, work on connecting Solar Highways to the electricity grid will start. In November, the cabling will be finished and the electrical installation will be completed. This will be followed by testing.
Solar Highways finished in December 2018
In December 2018, the barrier will be ready for electronic use and the first green electricity will be generated. From that moment on, the energy output of the solar noise barrier will be measured accurately for 18 months. The results will be used to estimate the maintenance needs, energy performance and financial returns of possible future solar noise barriers.
